Phone calls link man to copper wire theft

A New Haven man faces a felony charge of receiving stolen property in connection with the theft of more than 300 pounds of copper wire.

Foster A. Mowrey, 31, was recorded in a phone call to his girlfriend in the Allen County Jail as he talked about “the stuff” they had at the home they shared, according to the probable cause affidavit filed Thursday in Allen Superior Court.

His girlfriend, Catherine Bure, was arrested March 27 with 309 pounds of copper weld wire identified by an American Electric Power employee as being stolen, according to the report.

During two phone calls, Mowrey asked Bure if she got the “stuff” out of their basement, at which point she told him she was arrested with the wire that day, according to the affidavit.

Mowrey was being held Thursday night on $2,500 bond.
