  • IPFW sets aside friendship to beat ex-coach’s team
The way the two opposing coaches talked after IPFW’s 89-71 win over Jacksonville on Monday at Memorial Coliseum, it didn’t seem as if either one really wanted the matchup to even happen.
  • Jasick returns with new team
They still call one another three or four times a week, two old friends whiling away their morning commutes 1,000 miles apart.
  • Poor shooting at line ruins Mastodons’ rally
A lack of consistent free-throw shooting down the stretch proved to be costly for IPFW as the Mastodons dropped their first game of the season, 78-69 at Georgia Tech.

Report: Jacksonville courting IPFW’s Jasick

Jacksonville courts IPFW’s Jasick

IPFW men’s basketball coach Tony Jasick apparently has a suitor.

On the heels of reports that Jasick had met with officials from Jacksonville University about its vacant head coaching job Saturday came a tweet from Jeff Goodman of ESPN that sources had told ESPN that Jasick was considered the “front runner” for the job.

Jacksonville went 12-18 and finished seventh in the Atlantic Sun Conference under coach Cliff Warren, who was fired in mid-March.

At IPFW this year, Jasick coached the Mastodons to a record 25 wins, the school’s first Division I postseason appearance and its first postseason victory.

And he’s not unfamiliar with Florida. IPFW assistant coach Jon Coffman, a former assistant at Stetson in the Sunshine State, was instrumental in luring Pierre Bland, Steve Forbes and leading scorer Luis Jacobo to IPFW from Florida.
