And from today's News That Isn't Really News bureau ...
And, yes, OK, we've come to expect fans deciding that vandalism is the appropriate way to express their joy at winning ... well, whatever. So no real surprise that UConn's 60-54 victory over Kentucky last night was hard on street lights and windows and that sort of thing.
Still, the thought process involved here (or the non-thought process, as the case may be) always intrigues. At what point does a UConn student decide, "Hey, we just won the national title! I'm gonna go turn over some furniture in the union building!"
Even more astounding: The mayor's office in Lexington, Ky., reporting 17 couch fires in the wake of Kentucky's loss.
Why couches, for heaven's sake? I can think of any number of things more flammable if you're in that sort of mood. But couches?
I'm sure the shrinks could make hay with that one, linking the fact that the Wildcats couldn't make a free throw when it mattered to some sort of latent couch hatred on the part of their supporters. They might even be able to land a government grant for it.
In which case, I can't wait to read it.
