Restitution ordered for man in bar fight

A 27-year-old Fort Wayne man was given a suspended prison sentence Monday but ordered to pay more than $13,000 in restitution for injuries he inflicted during a bar fight.

Zachary T. Joley, of the 1900 block of Bayview Drive, pleaded guilty this year to battery causing serious bodily injury. Under the terms of a plea agreement, his eight-year prison sentence was suspended. Allen Superior Court Judge John Surbeck ordered him to pay $13,623 in restitution and gave him six years of probation.

Joley was charged in November with aggravated battery and battery causing serious bodily injury in connection with a September fight in the lot behind Carl’s Tavern at 433 Broadway St. in New Haven. Surveillance video showed Joley and four other men arguing.

The bar owner and a man went to break it up. When police arrived, they found the man who tried to help bleeding profusely with facial fractures. He had been knocked out and had lost teeth. Video showed Joley hit the man in the head, according to court documents.
