Rapist, 55, gets 10 years; girl says she forgives him

She told him she loved him in spite of what he did. His smile still warmed her life, she told the court at the sentencing of Htar Kyoo, a 55-year-old man convicted of raping her.

According to court documents, Kyoo forced himself on the girl in September while she was asleep in his home. He was charged with rape and two counts of sexual misconduct with a minor. A jury convicted him of the charges this year.

During the hearing, the girl said she forgave him and hoped he could tell the truth and say he was sorry.

When it was his turn to speak, Kyoo said he had not raped her but became confused when he came home from work and thought she was his wife.

Allen Superior Court Judge John Surbeck sentenced Kyoo to 10 years in prison on the rape charge and found that the two sexual misconduct charges merged into the rape charge for purposes of sentencing.
