Driver injured in fiery SUV crash

A man was in serious but stable condition after he lost control of his SUV, it struck several trees and then caught fire, according to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department.

Scott A. Greenwood, 47, of Waterloo, was driving a 2001 Dodge Durango northbound in the 5900 block of County Road 427 about 3:15 a.m. Sunday when he traveled across the center line and ran into a ditch, according to a department news release.

His SUV struck several trees, rolled from the slant of the embankment and struck another tree, police said.

Greenwood became trapped against a tree while inside the SUV, which caught fire, the statement said.

Police and fire crews were able to get Greenwood out of the burning vehicle.

He was taken to Parkview Regional Hospital with a broken leg and a head wound.
