A 54-year-old former staff member at Anthony Wayne Services pleaded guilty Tuesday to a felony, admitting to neglecting a patient.
Francis Udoh, of the 3000 block of Kingsley Drive, pleaded guilty to neglect of a dependent and was given a two-year suspended prison sentence and two years on probation. He cannot work at a facility again that accepts Medicaid payments, according to the terms of the plea agreement.
Udoh and Chukwuemeka Esotu, 26, were charged in February after a motion-activated camera caught abuse to a patient in August and September 2012. The camera caught Esotu slapping the patient, and the man’s diapers had not been changed in more than 13 hours, according to court documents.
Udoh was fired after he reportedly lied to AWS administrators about how often he checked on the patient, court documents said.
Before he pleaded guilty, Udoh told Allen Superior Court Judge John Surbeck that he came to America because of justice and could not believe how far the case had gone. Surbeck accepted the guilty plea and sentenced Udoh immediately following the hearing.
Esotu is scheduled for trial in July.
