Threes were wild for the TinCaps on Friday night.

The TinCaps scored three runs in the first inning and three pitchers combined on a four-hitter as Fort Wayne won the opening game of a three-game series against West Michigan 4-0 in front of 2,194 fans at Fifth Third Ballpark in Comstock Park, Mich.

TinCaps (9-11) starter Coby Cowgill (1-0) gave up two hits in five innings, striking out four and walking none.

He was backed up by relievers Justin Livengood (three innings, no hits, three strikeouts) and Tayron Guerrero (one inning, two hits, three strikeouts).

Norwell graduate Josh VanMeter led the 10-hit attack with two doubles and a run scored.

Fernando Perez also had two doubles and drove in a run, Franchy Cordero had two hits, including a double, and Dane Phillips had two RBI.

The TinCaps got all they needed in the first.

VanMeter doubled to left and scored on a single to center by Dustin Peterson. After a walk to Franmil Reyes, Perez doubled to left to score Peterson. Phillips grounded out to second to score Reyes.

The TinCaps capped the scoring in the eighth when, with two outs, Perez doubled to right and scored on a single to right by Phillips.
