The AWS Foundation will acquire its first chief executive officer next month.
Michael Cahill, a CPA who was recently CEO and president of Tower Bank, will take the position effective June 2, according to a news release.
The foundation’s goals are to address the needs of people with intellectual and physical disabilities.
This is a great opportunity to more fully invest myself in a mission that I passionately believe in, Cahill said in a statement.
Lynne Gilmore will continue as the foundation’s executive director and will work with Cahill and the board in developing and executing a larger strategic vision for the organization.
Cahill was president and CEO of both Tower Financial Corp. and Tower Bank & Trust Co. until their sale to Old National Bank last month.
He also has ties to AWS/Benchmark. Benchmark Human Services, a division of AWS, helps children and adults with disabilities and mental illness live as independently as possible in their communities.
Cahill was a board member and treasurer from 2000 to 2004; When AWS/Benchmark became a for-profit entity in 2007, he joined its board of directors and became its representative to the foundation.
He was elected to the AWS Foundation board two years ago.
Thanks to the tremendous growth in the subsidiary businesses, we are poised to take another significant step forward in making an even greater impact in the disability community, Cahill said in the statement.
