Police evacuated a south-side neighborhood during a 3½-hour standoff with an armed Fort Wayne man Sunday who was later charged with battery and strangulation.
Fort Wayne police responded to a report of a fight between Joshua Logue, 24, and an unidentified female at 4:24 p.m. in the 4000 block of Oliver Street, according to police reports.
The incident was reported by a roommate who indicated that when he tried to intervene, Logue brandished a gun, police said.
When officers arrived, three adults left the residence. Logue, who was armed, refused to exit the house even after police tried ordering him out of the residence several times.
The Emergency Services Team and Crisis Response Team arrived at the scene and officers with the Crisis Response Team were able to communicate with Logue by telephone. At 7:43 p.m. Logue agreed to a surrender plan and voluntarily exited the residence.
Nearby neighbors were evacuated from their homes during the standoff and several roads were temporarily closed including Smith and Oliver streets and Bowser Avenue between Rudisill Boulevard and Baxter Street.
Logue was charged with felony domestic battery and strangulation.
The case remains under investigation, and additional charges may be forthcoming, police said.
