Aqua Indiana hearing set tonight

FORT WAYNE – Mayor Tom Henry was joined by Aqua Indiana President Tom Bruns on Tuesday afternoon to reiterate support for a purchase agreement City Council will consider.

Council members Tuesday night will have a public hearing on and debate a measure to pay $67 million for Aqua Indiana’s southwest water system and settle the dispute about the purchase price of Aqua’s former north system. Also in the package is a $63 million loan to cover the cost of the purchase and connecting the two water utilities.

Both city and Aqua Indiana officials said the purchase will be good for all parties involved, and city officials said Aqua customers can expect better-quality water at lower prices once the transition is complete.
