FORT WAYNE – Gary Golay pleaded guilty Thursday to 11 charges in connection with a 2012 crash on U.S. 30 that killed a 4-year-old girl and injured five others.
The charges include reckless homicide and multiple counts of criminal recklessness. In exchange for his guilty plea, he will receive a suspended prison sentence with time on home detention and probation. His driver’s license will be suspended for at least five years.
Golay, of West Mansfield, Ohio, who is now 57, was accused of plowing into four vehicles stopped for a red light at Kroemer Road in northwest Fort Wayne, near the Sweetwater Sound headquarters, on July 27, 2012.
The 68,450-pound semi hauling auto parts was going 59 mph in a 50-mph zone, and the rig’s black box showed that Golay did not brake before the crash, according to an affidavit of probable cause filed in Allen Superior Court.
The crash left Abigail Little, 4, of Albion, in critical condition, and she died not long after arriving at a hospital, authorities said. She was one day shy of her fifth birthday, according to her obituary.
