75-year-old accused of aluminum bat beating

A debate over money allegedly got a 75-year-old Fort Wayne man so riled up that he’s accused of attacking another man with an aluminum baseball bat.

Vernon Poindexter Jr., of the 3600 block of Bowser Avenue, was in Allen County Lockup on Friday facing preliminary counts of battery with a deadly weapon resulting in serious bodily injury and criminal recklessness.

On Thursday night, Poindexter became embroiled in a quarrel with a man who claimed Poindexter owed him money for work, according to Allen Superior Court documents.

Poindexter ended up at the man’s home with an aluminum bat, which he used to strike the man eight or nine times, court documents said.

The man suffered an injury to his left arm and a laceration on his head.

Poindexter left the man’s house but was found by police at his own home.

According to court documents, Poindexter was “highly intoxicated and combative.”

He was being held in lieu of $12,000 bail.
