Unable to rouse a couple who was supposed check out, the Comfort Inn in Warsaw called police, and the guests ended up in less accommodating circumstances. An active meth lab will do that.

Warsaw officers were called to the hotel on East Center Street about 12:45 p.m. Friday after staff members were unable to get into the room. The police said the safety lock bar on the door was engaged and a man could be seen sleeping on the bed.

After several attempts to wake him, the man opened the door, police said. Officers reported finding an active one-pot methamphetamine lab, items used in making meth, syringes and finished methamphetamine.

Richard D. Cain, 33, of Warsaw, was charged with dealing, delivering or manufacturing methamphetamine. He was being held on a $100,000 bond.

Courtney C. Bowling, 24, of North Webster, was charged with possession of more than 3 grams of methamphetamine and possession of stolen property. The police said the vehicle the two drove to the hotel had a stolen license plate on it. She was being held on $25,000 bond.

Warsaw Police were assisted by the Warsaw Wayne Fire Territory and the Indiana State Police Clandestine Lab team.

The police said any drug tips can be called into the Warsaw Police Department at 574-372-9540.
