IPFW improves in NCAA's APR

IPFW’s 16 athletic programs exceeded the NCAA’s minimum standards for Academic Progress Rate, and the women’s golf team earned a perfect APR score of 1,000.

The 2014 report released by the NCAA on Wednesday features a four-year compilation of APR data from the 2009-10, 2010-11, 2011-12 and 2012-13 academic years. The APR uses a series of formulas related to student-athlete retention and eligibility to measure the academic performances of all participants who receive grants-in-aid on every team at every Division I college and university.

Teams must achieve either a 930 multi-year APR or a 940 average over the most recent two years to eligible to compete in 2014-15 postseason play.

After the Mastodons’ baseball team tumbled to a 927 score a year ago, it bounced back to 939 in this year’s APR.

The IPFW men’s basketball team also enjoyed a significant bump, going from 930 to 946. The women’s basketball program had a 967, up from last year’s 963.
