Grissom air operations moving to Ohio temporarily

– Refueling airplanes at the Grissom Air Reserve Base in central Indiana will be moved to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio at the end of May so $3.2 million in repairs can be made to Grissom’s 12,500 foot-long runway.

The 434th Air Refueling Wing commander, Col. Bryan Reinhart, says the air operations normally conducted at Grissom will be held at Wright-Patterson for 45 days. He says non-flying operations will continue as normal at Grissom.

Squadron Chief Engineer John Robison says the repairs are critical to the long-term use of the runway by both military and civilian aircraft. He says the work will prevent buckling of the runway caused by summer heat.

The Grissom squadron is the largest unit of KC-135R airplanes in the Air Force Reserve Command.
