Couple jailed in attack on female police officer

A Fort Wayne couple were arrested last week after police said they assaulted an officer as she tried to take the couple’s daughter into custody.

Faneshea R. Turner, 33, and Courtney C. Turner, 28, were formally charged Thursday in Allen Superior Court with one felony count each of battery and resisting law enforcement.

On Saturday, officer Shannon Hughes was in the 3600 block of Bowser Avenue when she had the couple’s daughter in custody.

Faneshea Turner then tried to pull her daughter away from Hughes and eventually started to pull Hughes’ hair and punch her head and shoulders, a probable cause affidavit said.

The affidavit didn’t say why the daughter was in police custody.

Courtney Turner also joined in the assault, the report said. Hughes called for assistance, and several officers arrived and arrested the Turners and others involved.

Hughes suffered pain to her head and shoulders and scrapes and bruises to her hands and elbows, according to the report.

Faneshea Turner was being held Thursday in lieu of $5,000 bail, and Courtney Turner was being held without bond on an unrelated charge, according to Allen County Lockup.
