Giving back

United Way of Allen County's Women United donated $21,000 to Community Action of Northeast Indiana for scholarships for early-childhood education programs.

•The Fort Wayne Walk to Cure Arthritis on May 3 raised more than $20,000.

Awards/recognition

Bud Dyer, founder of the Pat Dyer Memorial Fund, received the Community Service Award from the Mary Penrose Wayne Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. The Pat Dyer fund helps low-income cancer patients cover the recurrent travel costs associated with chemotherapy and radiation treatments, along with doctor appointments.

American Red Cross of Northeast Indiana will award Chuck Surack the Humanitarian of the Year award for his community work. Surack will be honored at a luncheon Wednesday.

Jenna Miller graduated from the Charmaine School and Model Agency's professional modeling course in Fort Wayne.
