And Another Thing

Come on down, Minneapolis!

Well, of course Minneapolis won the 2018 Super Bowl. They're building a new stadium, aren't they?

That really is all it takes to turn the NFL's head, the NFL being a corporate entity of exceedingly easy virtue. Show it a stadium worth more than the gross national product of Andorra, and it's yours for ... well, 2018.

And so Minneapolis gets the Great Big Game, helped along no doubt by a certain traffic stop in Carmel back in March. The moment Jim Irsay got tagged, any chance Indianapolis was going to get the 2018 Supe went flying off with the angels, no matter what a bang-up job the city did in 2012.

But it's no secret the deciding factor was the $1 billion stadium Minneapolis is scheduled to complete in 2016. Which of course begs a few questions:

1. One billion dollars? For the Vikings?

2. If Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, managed to scrape together $1.5 billion for a football stadium, would the 2020 Super Bowl be played there?

3. And if Budweiser kicked in an extra billion or so to make it happen, would the NFL play it outdoors?

And now for the answers ...

1. Well, yes. Although if Tarvaris Jackson were still there, a couple thousand would probably have been top dollar.

2. Of course. Come on, it's the NFL.

3. See "2."
