Las Vegas to return to ECHL in 2015-16

ECHL grants Wranglers voluntary suspension to find new venue

The Las Vegas Wranglers said today the ECHL team will return to play in Las Vegas for the 2015-16 season, and that details regarding a new home arena for the team will be announced at a later date.

The ECHL Board of Governors on Monday unanimously granted the Wranglers a voluntary suspension, which will allow the team time to complete plans to secure a new permanent venue, the Wranglers said in a statement.

Boyd Gaming had announced it would not be renewing the team’s lease at Orleans Arena.

“We were given very little time to find a solution for the 2014-15 season,” said Billy Johnson, Wranglers president and chief operating officer, in the statement. “We were very close to having everything in order for the 2014-15 season with the little time we had.

"But in the end, we needed a few weeks more, and the ECHL simply had to get on with its business. We cannot thank the ECHL board enough for giving the Wranglers a chance to see through all that we have accomplished in such a short time. Obviously, they have seen what we are working on. We are all excited.”
