TinCaps pitch their way to victory over Lansing

Luis Tejada had a two-run single and four pitchers combined for a four-hitter as the TinCaps snapped a season-long seven-game losing streak and held off Lansing 3-1 Thursday at Parkview Field.

Tejada lined a bouncer up the middle with the bases loaded in the second inning and Fort Wayne added a run in the third on Dane Phillips’ RBI double.

The TinCaps (18-28) got 4 2/3 innings from Adrian De Horta, who left with the bases full. Justin Livengood came on and struck out Jorge Saez to preserve the lead. He then worked a scoreless sixth before giving way to Tayron Guerrero, who struck out three in two perfect innings, and Nick Mutz, who finished for his sixth save.

The Lugnuts (23-23) plated their only run off an error by Franmil Reyes in the fourth.

Fort Wayne had led in six of the seven losses, six of which were decided by two runs or less. The TinCaps avoided falling 12 games under .500 for the first time since July 15, 2011.

In the second of a three-game set on Friday, Erik Cabrera (0-3) is scheduled to face Lansing southpaw Matt Dermody (2-0).
