Revitalization planned near Jackson’s boyhood home

– A Georgia-based nonprofit founded by the late Habitat for Humanity founder Millard Fuller will oversee a project in Gary aimed at revitalizing an area of the city near Michael Jackson’s boyhood home.

The Times of Munster reports four homes will be built in a two-block radius and the mortgages will be held by the Christian-based Fuller Center for Housing. Families can purchase the homes for about $50,000 with no interest and pay them off in about 10 years.

Construction is scheduled to be completed on Aug. 29, which would have been Jackson’s 56th birthday.

Gary Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson says there had been a host of ideas discussed for the area near where Jackson and his famous family once lived, but there was no money for those projects.
