Noble warns of phone scam

Despite what the voice message may tell you, the Noble County Sheriff’s Department is not going to resolve your outstanding warrant over the phone.

The department recently received a report from a man who said he got a voice message from someone with what sounded like a Middle Eastern accent which said the man had an arrest warrant.

The incoming call number on the caller ID said it was the Noble County Sheriff’s Department making the call, according to Chad Willett, chief deputy in Noble County.

The recording leaves a New York state phone number for the recipient to call to take care of the warrant.

The message says the number is the Department of State Investigations with the Criminal Bureau of Investigations.

Willett said the Noble sheriff's department does not handle warrants over the phone and this operation is the latest in many phone scams.

He reminded residents to never give out personal or financial information over the phone.
