Panthers go home as Blazers win sectional

Ashton Miller had 15 strikeouts for Eastside as it won a Class 2A sectional championship in Butler with a 5-1 victory over Lakewood Park on Thursday.

The Panthers had won the last two Class A state titles before moving up a class.

HUNTINGTON NORTH 12, SOUTH SIDE 0: At Homestead, Erin Rethlake pitched a perfect game, as Huntington North took the championship of a Class 4A sectional. She struck out 13 of 15 batters. At the plate, she was 2 for 2 with two runs and three RBI.

WAWASEE 8, LAKELAND 0: In Goshen, Amber Lemberg pitched a two-hitter for Wawasee, which got three hits and three RBI from Meghan Fretz in a Class 3A championship game at Fairfield.

NORWELL 3, HERITAGE 1: In Ossian, Kendall Beckstein had a triple for the Knights in a Class 3A championship game at home.


WOODLAN 5, CHURUBUSCO 1: In Monroe, Woodlan’s Brad Barker struck out 11 for the Warriors at a Class 2A sectional.


BISHOP DWENGER 144, HOMESTEAD 148, CANTERBURY 151: At Chestnut Hills, Homestead’s Chris Eigner shot a 6-under 30. Bishop Dwenger’s Spencer Gillig and Patrick Allgeier had 35s. Homestead and Canterbury went on to finish an 18-hole match, won 302-304 by Homestead, paced by Eigner’s 3-under 69.

Track and field

SOUTH BEND ST. JOSEPH REGIONAL: In South Bend, Warsaw won the regional with 77 points. The 1,600 relay of Landan Perry, Chad Goon, Ryan Goon and Gabriel Furnivall won in 3 minutes, 20.56 seconds.
