Warsaw vet joins race for House District 22

INDIANAPOLIS – A Warsaw veteran has stepped up to run as an independent in the House District 22 race covering parts of Kosciusko and Elkhart counties.

Michael Stinfer, 34, served in the U.S. Marines for four years, including the initial invasion of Iraq. He has a bachelor’s degree in business management from Grace College and has started studying for a master’s there as well.

“If there is one thing molded into you with the military and being a patriot is you need to stand up for things when you see they are not right,” Stinfer said.

The father of three said he didn’t like the things said and done during the primary fight between Rep. Rebecca Kubacki, R-Syracuse, and tea party activist Curt Nisly. Nisly knocked off Kubacki during the Republican primary.

“The community is ready for a straight shooter,” Stinfer said.

He said he is a conservative and that Nisly is actually more a Libertarian who ran as a Republican. As an independent, Stinger needs to gather about 340 signatures to get on the ballot. He already has more than 200.

The two would face Democrat David Kolbe in the general election.
