Softball roundup: Leo captures 1st regional title

The Leo softball team lived dangerously, but live the Lions did.

They overcame five errors to survive 3-2 at Wawasee in a Class 3A regional final Tuesday.

Wawasee starter Amber Lemberg faced only six batters above the minimum, but she allowed three runs on six hits in suffering a complete-game loss.

The Lions stole seven bases, three by Hannah Risser, en route to their first regional title.

Junior Linsey Bowers threw a complete game and Abbie Heischman had the only RBI for Leo.

The Lions (24-6) face Hanover Central on Saturday at semistate.

The Warriors finished 20-11.

YORKTOWN 4, NORWELL 2: The Knights (19-9) suffered a regional loss at home when Yorktown scored late insurance runs and held on in a Class 3A regional.

Senior Tiffany Williams took the loss for Norwell, which got a solo home run in the fifth from Alissa Hanni.

Yorktown scored in the sixth to make it 3-1 and again in the seventh to make it 4-2.

EASTSIDE 2, BREMEN 1: The Blazers broke a 1-run tie in the fifth to win the Class 2A Bremen Regional. Ashton Miller threw a complete-game three-hitter and drove in a run for Eastside, which had six hits.

Miller had nine strikeouts despite starting off just 13 batters with a strike. She issued the night’s only walk, and neither team had an error.

Kailen Berry drove in the other run for the Blazers. She had two hits, as did teammate Ellie Parker.

Eastside (28-4) will face Elwood at semistate on Saturday.
