Rural crash kills 2 on motorcycle

Car’s driver hurt in rural Portland

– Authorities say a Muncie couple died when their motorcycle collided with a car over the weekend in rural eastern Indiana.

The Jay County Sheriff’s Department said the crash at the intersection of two county roads also badly injured the car’s driver.

The sheriff’s department said 50-year-old Homer Darnell and 43-year-old Vanessa Darnell died at the scene after Saturday’s crash.

The department said 64-year-old Luke Fullenkamp of rural Portland apparently drove through a stop sign and into the motorcycle’s path at the intersection about 30 miles northeast of Muncie.

The car went into a ditch and hit a utility pole before ending up on its side in a ditch, authorities said.

Fullenkamp suffered head injuries and was in critical condition at a Fort Wayne hospital.
