Herrera RHP (4-4, 3.45)
Dermody LHP (3-2, 5.18)
FIRST LOOK: TinCaps fans get their first look at Ronald Herrera, who started twice on the road since being acquired as part of a trade between the Padres and A’s. He’s a 5-foot-11 right-hander from Venezuela. Based on hype and actual track record, Herrera might be the top guy in manager Michael Collins’ rotation.
HE’S BACK: On the mound for Lansing is Matt Dermody, who triggered a fracas at Parkview Field on May 23 by drilling Dustin Peterson in the back of the helmet. Dermody was immediately ejected but was not suspended by the Midwest League. That remains the only hit batter on Dermody’s ledger. He was absolutely battered in that game, crushed for nine earned runs on eight hits in less than three innings.
BAUERS POWER: The Jake Bauers watch continues, as he managed a single last night to extend his league-best hitting streak to 17 games. Bauers has handled lefties well with 15 hits and seven walks in 46 plate appearances.
MALLEX OFF: TinCaps center fielder and leadoff man Mallex Smith has the day off. He had played in 62 of 65 games.
NEED A ‘W’: The TinCaps have lost four in a row and seek to avoid a three-game sweep to Lansing.
