A house in the 7200 block of Miahqueah Court on the east side of Fort Wayne was heavily damaged by fire this morning, but the three occupants inside the house got out on their own without injury, according to a statement from the Fort Wayne Fire Department.

Neighbors reported smoke coming from the house at 9:20 a.m., and by the time firefighters arrived at 9:26 a.m., all three occupants were already out.

The firefighters battled heavy smoke and flames extending through the roof that eventually caused them to evacuate the structure, as well.

They got the fire under control at 10:05 a.m., the statement said, but they were still working on the scene at noon.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, the statement said.
