Chase named broadcaster of year

Komets play-by-play announcer Bob Chase was named the 2013-14 ECHL Broadcaster of the Year on Thursday at the annual league meetings in Las Vegas.

Chase is the 15th broadcaster in ECHL history to win the award since it was first presented in 2002. The award is voted on by the league’s media relations directors and broadcasters among the 21 member teams.

Chase, 88, started with the K’s when he began his radio career with WOWO 1190 in 1953.

During his career, Chase has called 12 regular season league titles and nine playoff championships among 4,500 games. He also won the 2012 Lester Patrick Award, a trophy presented by the NHL and USA Hockey to honor contributions to hockey.
