Two dogs were rescued from a fire that heavily damaged a detached garage at a home on Fort Wayne’s near-north side Wednesday.

No one was injured.

Firefighters were called to 645 Riverside Ave., between Spy Run Avenue and Griswold Drive, shortly after 11 a.m.

They found heavy smoke coming from the front of the garage, the Fort Wayne Fire Department said.

The first crews at the scene had to force their way into the garage, where they found the two dogs unharmed in the rear of the building.

Firefighters had the blaze under control within a few minutes, the department said.

Firefighters were assisted by American Electric Power, Three Rivers Ambulance Authority and Northern Indiana Public Service Co.
