TinCaps swept by West Michigan, skid reaches 9

Ryan Miller hit his ninth home run, but the TinCaps blew a four-run lead and saw their losing streak reach nine games with a 7-6 defeat to West Michigan on Sunday afternoon at Parkview Field.

Miller’s two-run drive and Edwin Moreno’s RBI double spurred a four-run fourth inning for the TinCaps that gave them a 5-1 edge.

West Michigan slugger Jeff Holm, who hit a solo homer in the fourth, then hit a two-out, two-run single in the fifth to end Kyle Lloyd’s day. Reliever Eric Yardley was greeted with an RBI single by Francisco Contreras. The Whitecaps added an RBI single by Bennett Pickar and then went up 6-5 on Dustin Peterson’s run-scoring error, his 30th of the season.

Each team scored in the sixth. Javier Betancourt’s sacrifice fly in the top half was followed by Rey Bruguera’s single for his first RBI this year as a TinCap.

The Whitecaps (52-35, 11-6 second half) committed two run-scoring errors, one in the third and the other in the fourth.

The TinCaps (35-51, 5-12) begin a three-game series at Great Lakes on Tuesday.
