Former Mastodon honored

A former IPFW pitcher is now a Frontier League All-Star.

Chuck Weaver, who plays for the Florence Freedom, has been selected to participate in the 2014 Frontier League All-Star game. The game will be played July 16 at GCS Ballpark in Sauget, Illinois.

It's the first All-Star appearance for Weaver, a Homestead graduate, in his second season with Florence. At IPFW, he won six games during his two-year career. The 87 strikeouts he recorded in his junior year rank second all-time in school history.

In 2013, Weaver struck out 69 batters, starting 13 games and posting a 2-5 record with a 3.57 ERA.

This season, Weaver leads the Frontier League with a 1.20 ERA. He has a record of 4-1 in seven starts and has walked five batters in 44.2 innings. Last year he was 4-2 with a 3.70 ERA in 14 appearances.
