Felony counts filed in girlfriend’s attack

A Fort Wayne man was charged Tuesday, accused of choking and punching his six-month pregnant girlfriend last week.

The woman told police she got into an argument with Joshua D. Sells, 21, of the 2100 block of Hoagland Avenue, and that he punched her in the face before he grabbed her by the hair and forced her to the floor.

Sells then allegedly pulled the woman into a bedroom, where he pushed her on the bed and put his hands around her neck as he held her down, a probable cause affidavit said.

Sells threatened to use a gun in his waistband to kill the woman but never pulled the weapon or pointed it at her, the affidavit said.

In the 911 call to police, Sells can be heard in the background saying he would beat her and kill her if he got arrested, the report said.

He was charged with two felony counts of battery, one for battery to a pregnant woman and one for battery in the presence of a child younger than 16 years old.

A warrant was issued for his arrest.
