A four-run sixth inning powered the TinCaps to their first sweep away from Parkview Field this season with a 7-0 win over Quad Cities (12-14, 47-49).
Fort Wayne has now won five of its last six.
In the sixth, the TinCaps scored four runs for a 6-0 lead. Ronnie Richardson reached first on an error by the River Bandits’ second baseman, Henry Charles was walked, and Josh VanMeter singled to load the bases. Richardson scored off a Trea Turner single, then Charles and VanMeter came home off a Dustin Peterson single. A Jake Bauers RBI single brought in Turner for his second run of the night.
VanMeter had opened the scoring in the third for the TinCaps (9-17, 40-56) when his 18th double of the season was followed by a double from Turner.
In the fifth, Turner walked, went to second on an error during a Bauers at-bat, and then a wild pitch from Jandel Gustave allowed Turner to go to third. Franmil Reyes’ RBI single brought home Turner, who went 3 for 4, with two runs and two RBI.
Adolfo Reina hit his third home run in two games in the ninth to finish the scoring.
Cody Hebner (1-1) allowed only one hit over five innings and struck out four for Fort Wayne.
The TinCaps open a three-game series at Cedar Rapids at 6:05 p.m. today.
