Big 6th gives TinCaps 1st road sweep

A four-run sixth inning powered the TinCaps to their first sweep away from Parkview Field this season with a 7-0 win over Quad Cities.

Fort Wayne has won five of its last six.

In the sixth, the TinCaps’ Ronnie Richardson reached first on an error, Henry Charles was walked and Josh VanMeter singled to load the bases.

Richardson scored on a Trea Turner single, then Charles and VanMeter came home on a Dustin Peterson single. Jake Bauers’ RBI single brought in Turner.

VanMeter had opened the scoring in the third for the TinCaps (9-17, 40-56) when his 18th double of the season was followed by a double from Turner.

In the fifth, Turner walked, went to second on an error during a Bauers at-bat, then a wild pitch from Jandel Gustave allowed Turner to go to third. Franmil Reyes’ RBI single brought home Turner, who went 3 for 4, with two runs and two RBI.

Adolfo Reina hit his third home run in two games in the ninth to finish the scoring.

Fort Wayne starter Cody Hebner (1-1) allowed Quad Cities (12-14, 47-49) only one hit over five innings and struck out four.

The TinCaps open a three-game series at Cedar Rapids at 6:05 p.m. today.
