Luis Tejada and Fernando Perez homered to back terrific pitching performances as the TinCaps held off Beloit in a 3-2 win on Thursday night at Parkview Field.
Cody Hebner (2-1) gave up one run on two hits in five innings in his second straight strong start. He struck out five.
The TinCaps (42-59, 12-20 second half) provided just enough offense.
Tejada hit a first-pitch homer in the fifth that made it 1-all. Perez yanked a changeup off the foul pole in right in the sixth, his eighth of the year, to give Fort Wayne a 2-1 lead.
Reliever Justin Livengood protected it with three shutout innings. Beloit (40-62, 10-22) finished with four hits.
Jake Bauers' RBI groundout in the bottom of the eighth provided closer Ryan Butler a two-run edge. Bauers has driven in 50 runs in 76 games.
Butler allowed a double to B.A. Vollmuth leading off the top of the ninth. He scored on an RBI groundout by Luis Baez. Butler retired the next batter for his fourth professional save since being drafted last month.
