Summit League sets 2014-15 championships schedule

The Summit League announced the dates and hosts for all 19 of its sport championships for 2014-15 season Thursday.

IPFW welcomes back the men’s and women’s tennis championships for the fifth time since joining the league in 2007-08.

Headlining the schedule is The Summit League Basketball Championships, which will be hosted by the Sioux Falls Sports Authority. This season, the championships move into the brand new Denny Sanford PREMIER Center in Sioux Falls, S.D., after six successful years at the Sioux Falls Arena.

North Dakota State hosts a league-high three championships this season, beginning with cross country on Nov. 1. Fargo will also welcome the indoor track & field and softball championships to town. The Bison will be hosting softball for the third-straight season and fourth time in the last six years.

Denver and IUPUI will then host back-to-back championships, respectively. The Pioneers host women’s soccer and men’s soccer on consecutive weekends while the Jaguars are scheduled to host volleyball and swimming & diving, both for the second-straight year.

The outdoor track & field championships return to Hanson Field on the campus of Western Illinois for the first time since 2008 while South Dakota State will host the baseball championship for the second consecutive season.

The men’s and women’s golf championships will be split for the first time since 2010. The men’s championship will take place in Lompoc, Calif., while the women will be competing in Seaside, Calif.

In all, a total of six different Summit League institutions will host a championship event during the 2014-15 season.
