Hamilton honored by ex-Congress group

Lee Hamilton recently received the 2014 Distinguished Service Award of the U.S. Association of Former Members of Congress.

Hamilton represented parts of southern Indiana in the U.S. House from 1965 through 1999. He was chairman of the Foreign Affairs and Intelligence committees and headed up a select committee that investigated the sale of U.S. weapons to Iran.

After leaving Congress, Hamilton was vice chairman of the 9/11 Commission and co-chairman of the Iraq Study Group. He founded and leads the Center on Congress at Indiana University Bloomington, where he teaches in the School for Public and Environmental Affairs and the School of Global and International Studies.

The non-profit Association of Former Members of Congress described Hamilton as “man of great intelligence, foreign policy credentials, and dedication to serving the people of Indiana and all Americans. He is considered one of the most influential former Members of Congress."
