Irish to open fall camp at Culver Military Academy

Notre Dame has chosen to begin training camp away from campus for a second straight year.

The Irish open preseason preparation at Culver Military Academy in Culver on Aug. 4.

Friday’s announcement brought back memories. Lou Holtz took Irish camp to Culver in 1995 and 1996.

Last year, coach Brian Kelly opened fall practice at the Shiloh Park Retreat and Conference Center in Marion.

“We were able to initiate a successful program last year,” Kelly said in a statement issued by the team. “Culver will significantly help improve the experience for our team this fall.”

Notre Dame will conduct five practices on the campus, located about 45 minutes south of South Bend.

“Culver and the Irish have enjoyed a great relationship through the years,” Culver Acadamies head of schools John Buxton said in a release.

Camp then moves to the Notre Dame fields on Aug. 9.
