Based on the 11 players the Komets have signed, is it possible to put together any possible line combinations?
Not really, but let’s look at what we’ve got anyway.
Top line: Mike Embach-Angelo Esposito-Christian Ouellet
Second line: ???-Thomas Frazee-Bret Beebe
Third line: Alex Hudson-????-Lincoln Kaleigh Schrock
Clearly, the Komets need some centermen. Presumably, the Colorado Avalanche or Lake Erie Monsters will provide some of that.
On defense, the Komets so far have: Drew Daniels, Matthew Maione and William Lacasse. That means they are lacking top three defensemen.
The lone goaltender is Pat Nagle. He should be a serviceable No. 1, but the Komets expect to get a goalie from the Avalanche, too.
Speaking of which, whom might that be?
The Avalanche goalies are … Semyon Varlamov, Reto Berra, Sami Aittokallio, Calvin Pickard, Spencer Martin, Roman Will and Maximillian Pajpach.
It’s tough to navigate these guys because Martin is 19 and Pajpach is 18 and in Europe.
Will would seem to be the most likely fit to wind up in the ECHL, but he’s spent the last two seasons in the Czech Republic after an impressive junior career in Moncton.
If I had to guess, it would be him.
But Berra is a possibility, too. Even though he played 31 NHL games last season – 29 with Calgary – his statistics weren’t all that impressive and I can’t imagine the Avalanche would hold back younger guys for a 27-year-old journeyman who’s spent most of his career in Europe.
