Coroner rules mobile home death homicide

The death of a 78-year-old woman found in her trailer Friday in northwest Fort Wayne has been ruled the ninth homicide of the year for Allen County.

Diane Woods’ son came across the gruesome scene at his mother’s home after she couldn’t be reached for the daily phone call her sister makes.

The Allen County Coroner’s Office said that Woods died of blunt force injury to the head.

Police arrived at Woods’ mobile home at 5721 Le Steele Blvd. in the Valley Hills Mobile Home Park shortly before 5:30 p.m. after Woods’ son found her.

The street, which is the entrance road from Washington Center Road to the mobile home park, was blocked by police cars and police tape throughout the evening.

In addition to the crime scene, a mobile home several lots north from Woods’ also had crime scene tape around it.

Police at the scene said evidence related to the case was near that lot.

Officer Chris Felton, Fort Wayne Police Department spokesman, said Saturday the department’s detective bureau had no new information to release.
