Vera Bradley's New Haven facility moves to one shift, affecting 150 workers

Vera Bradley Inc. is moving to one shift at its New Haven manufacturing facility, a move that will affect 150 workers.

The company spoke about the decision Wednesday. The handbag maker has been facing some pressure from investors and declining profits.

Spokeswoman Melissa Schenkel said the business will work with the affected employees to secure employment at other areas within the company or work out a severance package.

“We are offering first priority to employees who have been displaced to be relocated to: 1) Open positions on the first shift or 2) Open first, second and third shift shipping and distribution positions at our Stonebridge Road distribution center in Roanoke,” she said.

“Between the two locations, there are nearly 100 open positions. We are also offering a generous voluntary separation package to certain associates. Thus, we could end up with a relatively small number of employees who may separate from the company,” Schenkel said.
