Cartoon referencing Ebola reflected poor taste

I am writing in regard to the Aug. 9 cartoon that compares City Council's recent issues with collective bargaining to the Ebola virus. I found this cartoon in the poorest of taste, insensitive and uncaring.

Ebola is a devastating disease and is affecting hundreds of our fellow human beings. To poke fun at such a serious issue seems to me to go beyond the pale.

The same day The Journal Gazette ran this cartoon, Dr. Deborah McMahan was featured in an article on the front page with warnings concerning the virus and that the World Health Organization had just classified Ebola as a worldwide health emergency.

I am not only a resident of Fort Wayne but also a nurse and a mother with a daughter and son-in-law who currently teach and live in West Africa. This is a very real threat in my eyes, and to see this cartoon in the newspaper was hurtful and, I feel, very unprofessional on The Journal Gazette's part.
