Semi hits concrete that fell from I-74 bridge

ST. LEON, Ind. – State police said a semi crashed after it struck a large piece of concrete that fell from a bridge onto Interstate 74 in southeast Indiana.

Sgt. Noel Houze said the section of concrete was about 2 cubic feet and fell Monday from the Indiana 46 bridge near St. Leon, about 10 miles west of the Ohio state line.

Houze said the bridge is undergoing major repairs and investigators believe vibrations from heavy machinery dislodged the concrete.

Semi driver Mark Troyer, 58, of Middlebury suffered a minor leg injury as the truck hit the concrete section and overturned in the highway’s median.
