Associated Press releases preseason football poll

– The Associated Press released its 2014 preseason high school football poll Tuesday.

Snider tops the northeast Indiana teams at No. 3 in Class 5A, while SAC rival and 2013 Class 4A state runner-up Bishop Dwenger comes in at No. 4 in 4A.

Also in the top 10 are North Side at No. 8 in 5A, New Haven at No. 8 and Leo at No. 9 in 4A and Concordia at No. 8 in 3A.

Receiving honorable mention votes are Carroll in 6A, Wayne in 5A, Norwell in 4A, Bishop Luers in 3A, Woodlan and Churubusco in 2A and South Adams in 1A.

No. 1 rankings went to Carmel in 6A, Indianapolis Cathedral in 5A, Columbus East in 4A, Andrean in 3A, Indianapolis Ritter in 2A and Tri-Central in 1A.


WAWASEE 178, MISHAWAKA MARIAN 196, WEST NOBLE 218: The Warriors’ Elizabeth Jackson and Mikala Mawhorter each had 41s at Maxwelton.

Wawasee’s Kylie Rostochak and Kamryn Foy added 48s.

COLUMBIA CITY 197, BELLMONT 216: Macenzie Lane had a 44 to lead the Eagles at Eagle Glen.

Morgan Ellsworth had a 49 for the Braves.


HOMESTEAD 3, BISHOP LUERS 0: The host Knights were swept 25-17, 25-8, 25-12. Suzanne Peters had 12 kills, while Cassidy Geller added 10 for Homestead.

BELLMONT 3, BISHOP DWENGER 0: Janaya Wilder had 10 kills and Sadie Alberson added nine for the host Braves, who won 25-16, 25-6, 25-16.

EAST NOBLE 3, WEST NOBLE 1: The host Knights won 25-18, 21-25, 25-19, 25-13. Payton Hart had eight kills for East Noble.

Boys soccer

CARROLL 4, WEST NOBLE 1: Carroll beat host West Noble in a matchup between two top-10 teams. Carroll was ranked No. 7 in Class 2A, while West Noble was No. 7 in 1A. Carroll got three assists from Adam Gannon.

Girls soccer

CARROLL 5, BISHOP LUERS 0: Amber Hoot had two goals and an assist to lead the visiting Chargers. Carroll scored twice in the first half and three times in the second half.
