Huntington named to Washington Monthly’s best lists

– Washington Monthly has ranked Huntington University 5th among Indiana’s baccalaureate colleges. In addition, the magazine named HU 4th among Hoosier schools in the Best Bang for the Buck list of baccalaureate institutions.

“Today’s rankings tell the story that we have seen in multiple rankings: that Huntington University provides an excellent, Christ-centered education at a competitive price,” said Dr. Michael Wanous, vice president for academic affairs and dean of the faculty.

This is Huntington’s third appearance on the baccalaureate list since Washington Monthly added the category in 2010, and the university was ranked 90th nationwide. The publication introduced its Best Bang for the Buck category last year and also named HU on its inaugural list in 2013. This year, Huntington ranked No. 20 on that list nationally.

“As a university, we are honored by this recognition of our quality and value,” said Dr. Ron Coffey, vice president for student life. “We know these characteristics are true of our campus, and it is affirming when they are endorsed by others.”

Washington Monthly bases its rankings of baccalaureate colleges on three primary criteria: social mobility (recruiting and graduating low-income students), research (producing cutting-edge scholarship and Ph.D.s), and service (encouraging students to give something back to their country). The Best Bang for Buck category analyzes the economic value students receive per dollar they spend in tuition.
