Prince releasing album

Prince is releasing a new album Sept. 30.

The pop icon announced Monday that he would release “Art Official Age” on Warner Bros. Records, the label Prince was signed to from 1978 to the mid-1990s, but later battled for the rights to his music.

He reached a deal with Warner in April, earning the rights to the music he recorded on the label.

Prince will also release the album “PlectrumElectrum” with his all-female band 3RDEYEGIRL on Sept. 30. Both albums are available for pre-order.

“Art Official Age” was described in a news release as a mix “of soul, R&B and funk.” It’s his first album since 2010’s “20Ten.”

G Unit surprises

GUnit surprised fans when its members reunited this summer at a hip-hop concert, and they have another surprise: They digitally released six new songs Beyoncé-style early Monday.

The rap group dropped “The Beauty of Independence” extended play at midnight, mirroring Beyoncé’s successful surprise release of her self-titled album last year. The 50 Cent-led group disbanded over the years and last released “T.O.S: Terminate on Sight” in 2008.

Helping out

LL Cool J says it is important to help out kids in need.

The “NCIS” actor and hip-hop star handed out backpacks with school supplies to children in Jamaica, Queens, on Sunday.

He notes that a relatively small contribution can have a big effect on the families.

About 2,000 children attended the Worldstar Foundation event.
