Police and fire

Man surrenders to police after firing shots at vehicle, fleeing

A man barricaded himself inside a house after firing shots at a vehicle on Fort Wayne's southeast side, according a statement from the Fort Wayne Police Department.

Police responded to a call shortly after 8 a.m. this morning from

witnesses who say Michael M. Underwood, 48, fired shots toward a vehicle in the 2900 block of Lillie Street and fled the scene in a grey vehicle.

Police saw the grey vehicle leaving the area, and they later located it parked outside a residence in the 7600 block of Verona Drive.

A relative of Underwood who was outside called him by phone when police arrived, but Underwood refused to leave the residence, the statement said.

The Fort Wayne Police Department's Emergency Services Team and Crisis Response Team were dispatched to the scene.

A short time later, Underwood came out of the house and surrendered.

He was transported to police headquarters, the statement said. The incident is under investigation.
