Drivers of car, pickup truck in fatal crash identified
The Journal Gazette
Authorities have identified the driver of a car and a pickup truck in a two-vehicle crash resulting in death about 7:15 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of East Washington Boulevard and Harmar Street.
Cornelius Key Jr., 69, the truck's driver, died accidentally at the scene from multiple blunt force injuries because of the crash, the Allen County coroner's office said in a statement following an autopsy. His death is the first in a motor vehicle crash this year.
Donald Stump, 24, the car's driver, was last reported to be in serious condition at a local hospital, police said in a statement. They said charges in the case are pending.
Emergency crews called to the scene found the truck, badly damaged, on a utility pole. The car was in the middle of the intersection.
Police have said witnesses saw the car traveling west on Washington at high speed and crash into the rear of the truck, which was stopped in traffic just before the intersection.
Police have said investigators believe speed contributed to the crash, which remains under investigation by city police, the coroner's office and the county prosecutor's office.
